Apex's standard goes beyond asking whether a mare can carry a pregnancy. The goal is to provide a sound, well-managed recipient mare in appropriate body condition, a mare that has been selected for the job and one the customer can feel good about having in their program.

Nutrition & management

A managed herd.

The recipient herd follows a carefully managed nutrition program developed with an equine nutrition specialist.

Why 40 days?

Apex keeps qualifying recipient mares through 40 days of pregnancy at no additional cost. Embryonic loss can still occur following heartbeat detection, and Apex prefers to send mares home with a more established pregnancy.

The objective is to give every recipient leaving the program the best opportunity to ultimately produce a live foal.
